While CD Baby inspects the EP for digital and physical distribution, I am making ready to send copies of the CD and thank-yous to the wonderful people who supported this effort. I belong to a remarkable, generous community and I am very grateful. If you gave your support and are reading this now, THANK YOU. I look forward to sending you your CD.
While I am waiting for the release of the EP I am thinking of the next Rubenoff Project endeavor to come, choosing music and playing with art, writing some new stuff and practicing my instruments. As it is taking shape in my mind it will be more instrumental and less vocal, with more of a Latin feel. In any case it will be fun. 🙂
Of course I will let you all know when and where “Songs of Love, Despair and Regret” becomes available for purchase. I’m sure that will be soon.
Time remains a fluid entity, elastic and predictable only to a degree. The bow is bent, the arrow set to the string, the breath taken, the eye focused, the target acquired. Now there may be a pause, almost reflective, where one may question. This may be a moment or an infinity (hence the elastic nature of time).
Sometimes the fear of the brain causes premature release. The soul has not finished considering, but out of fear the brain acts. Then everyone is disappointed. Best wait until release has the best chance of hitting its target, or in other words, until it is “time.”
Well, let’s not have any of that.
It is in this blessed between state that I now wait for the CD’s to ship. 🙂
The sessions were fantastic for us, I venture to say. Everyone enjoyed themselves and together we created good music. We are happy with the result and hope you will be, too. We hope you will enjoy our new CD, “Songs of Love, Despair and Regret,” available soon. We’ll keep you posted. 🙂
You see yourself in the mirror and you wonder how you got there. But really, you know. You seem to remember there was this one and that one, and they said this and that and thus and so. And they did stuff, too. Some of this stuff they did and said you came somehow to own a share of, like a squatter, sojourner, stranger in a strange land. Ends up to be a great shared mass of particles, bits of reality and misconception, outright lie and humble truth.
After all of that you look in the mirror and you either hate or love what you see. Given the random nature of what is, it doesn’t really matter which. Pick one, play the part well, and maybe they’ll ask for an encore.
I decided to drop the “Bare Bone” from the EP title and just call it, “The Rubenoff Project”, subtitle, “Songs of Love, Despair and Regret.” I’ll save “Bare Bone” for a more trombone-centered recording maybe next year.
I could have really gone either way this year, but – and this will sound a bit funny coming from a sexagenarian – but I my sound needs to mature just a bit more. The Universe has been pushing me toward being a solo act on the trombone, but it is not really what I like. I like to blend. Therefore I like somebody to blend with.
Well, it’ll come, or it won’t. Wait and see.
In the mean time my sessions are booked for August 1st and 2nd, so I have lots of time to make sure I can remember my lyrics. Lucky for me the people I will be recording with are all better than I am. 😉
Thanks to my generous friends I now have about $1,800 to fund recording my new EP, “Bare Bone, Songs of Love, Despair and Regret.” This week I will solidify plans with my fellow musicians and come up with a schedule. Exciting times, full of work!
There is still time to contribute to this project. Everyone who donates more than $7 gets a copy of the EP. Click here if you would like to contribute.
I am leaning now in the direction of recording all vocal pieces on this EP, with no instrumentals on this particular recording. That means next year I should pursue recording some of my instrumental work to balance things out. 🙂
In other news, David Patrick, Ron Hertz and I will be back at the Lizard Lounge Open Mic Challenge on Monday, June 20th, to enjoy our ten minutes of fame and then sit and toss back several beers. Should be fun! I hope you’ll join us.
I am very grateful for all the support I have received, and also for the lessons I’ve learned. For example, if one will engage in crowdfunding, one should already have a crowd, realistically look at what the crowd may willingly provide by way of funds, and then seek perhaps 60% of this estimate. My misconception was that I could attract the public with a video plea and some musical excerpts.
Therefore, with broken misconceptions but unbroken resolve, I proceed with a smaller dream. Instead of “Notes from the Spirit” the reincarnation will be called, “Bare Bone (Songs of Love, Despair and Regret).” I have collected donations already adequate to create an EP with 3 or 4 songs on it, but not enough yet to produce it.

In other news, I am blessed to be playing a lot of music these days. I’ll certainly keep doing that. 🙂
First, THANK YOU to everyone who made a pledge to my Kickstarter project, “Notes from the Spirit.” 🙂
While hope remains it is not time to give up. So here it is. I must raise $4,800 in additional pledges for my Kickstarter campaign to succeed. Every pledge is important. So if you meant to pledge but haven’t yet please do. If you would otherwise like to pledge, please do. If you really don’t want to pledge, please do it anyway. No pledge is too small, and all will be met with joy and gratitude.
Also if you happen to know someone with $5K they are just dying to use to support a struggling artist, by all means let them know about “Notes from the Spirit.”
